I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about Dirk Nowitzki’s relationship with one Crystal Taylor.
I don’t know what her real name is.
Heck I don’t think she knows what her real name is. But what this story is bringing to light is the dangers of what I like to call the ‘professional woman’ and the athlete.
Forget women who are lawyers, doctors, beauticians, caregivers, etc. What I am talking about here is what we all know as the seedy life of the professional groupie.
Call them what you want. Working girl. Escort. Hoe.
Women of this ilk aren’t about trying to find Mr. Right; they are about finding Mr. Right Now to set my bankroll up something phat.
If it sounds like I have no love for such women you’re right. I think they are as bad as the drug dealer on the street because they aren’t about trying to find the average Joe. For them it is all about the money, the fame, the prestige.
Long before there were the Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo, there were these scanks living it up large and in charge and everybody in the sports world knows they exist.
Case in point is Ms. Taylor and it is hard to believe that Dirk even let this chic get this far in his life.
As a sports columnist/writer, it’s my job to be an investigative reporter and when I report on a story about a subject, I’m doing my job in a professional manner.
I think I do a pretty good job of being a PI every now and then but the professional groupies have all of us writers beat.
They’re better than the FBI in some cases.
These women know what these pro athletes like. They have vital info down better than STATS, Inc. or the Associated Press.
And they use this information to get who and what they want.
So it wasn’t too surprising to me that the Big German was finding himself ankle deep in a web of deceit by such a woman.
After all she already duped two other guys and she had messed with former NFL signal caller Tony Banks.
The sad thing about all of this is that some of this blame can be put on the players themselves.
You know the phrase: if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.
In the case of the pro athlete, just because the woman may be drop dead gorgeous doesn’t necessarily mean she’s the right one for you.
Sometimes you have to dig for the diamond in the rough but sometimes the gold digger is already mining your treasure.
Taylor was doing exactly that; trolling for treasure. And she thought she hit pay dirt.
You’d think pro athletes would know better but they don’t.
Hey even us average Joes get took too.
But I don’t think the average Joe is dumb enough to not listen to the people around him or if he is, then ole girl has got to him already.
The bottom line is that men and women need to be on the look out for the professional groupie cliques.
Anyone who is out to better their lifestyle without bringing something tangible to the table isn’t gonna always be your best interest.
But the reality of the professional groupie can just be unreal at times.
I’m surprised we haven’t heard more stories about Taylor’s from other players in the past.
Maybe we will. Maybe we won’t.
In the meantime, man that wallet and those credit cards like your life depended on it because in essence, it does.
